For people with diabetes, being able to choose and afford what they need to control their disease is critical to survival.
But right now, it’s becoming harder — and more expensive — to control diabetes. Costs for insulin and diabetes management tools have soared and show no signs of stopping. To make matters worse, some insurance companies have taken steps that limit patient choice and the coverage of life-saving technology.

What We Need from Insurance Companies
We, the undersigned people with diabetes and their supporters, call upon insurance companies to provide:
Affordability: Keep out-of-pocket insurance costs predictable and reasonable for insulin and diabetes management tools.
Choice: Give people the freedom to choose the insulin pump that’s right for them.
Coverage: Cover all life-saving technology, including artificial pancreas systems.
Affordability + Choice + Coverage = Control
Coverage is a fundamental part of health care — and affordability and choice should be, too.
JDRF believes giving people with diabetes control over their choices and their healthcare expenses is not only the right thing to do; it’s also the smart thing. Making it easier for people with chronic conditions to manage their disease helps avoid emergency room visits and complications, keeps people healthy and productive — and reduces overall healthcare costs.
